Downloading Free Movies!

Just like music, movies can come compressed in archives. For more, read the File Types link on the left.

Video Files

Video clips and movies come in a few different formats. This can be a little bit of a pain. Let me explain: There are a few different ways to copy a DVD (or any video) and you need to figure out which program your computer needs to play it, along with a codec (so the computer can decode the video and audio correctly) to use. This should help.

Tip: Before you start downloading video, I suggest you install the following on your computer, as they are all common and these may be the only codecs you need:
K-lite codec pack (the full version if you can),

(.avi .mpg .mpeg .divx .xvid .wmv .asf)

These files are usually movies or TV shows, or some other type of media. They can be viewed using various media players including Windows Media Player, but I suggest using Zoomplayer, BSPlayer, or Media Player Classic. As I said before, you'll need to make sure you have the right codecs to play each individual file. If your file doesn’t work and you don’t know what codec you need, try using GSpot. It tells you what codecs you need. Then do a Google search for the codec and download it.

(.mov)
These are QuickTime files.

(.ra .rm .ram)
These are RealPlayer files.

(.vob .ifo .bup, Video_ts folder)
Usually these files will come all together in one folder called video_ts. This is a direct backup of a dvd's file system. Use Nero to burn them onto a DVD-R by selecting "DVD video" from the DVD menu.

Again: Pay attention to the file extension. It may be called “Baby Got Back” but if the extension is .exe, do not open it. If the file is less than 1 kilobyte, don’t waste your time downloading it. It’s not legit. Sometimes you will download a bad song, or movie. When you start actively downloading from any source, you are going to have to pay attention to a few details. How big are the files supposed to be (approximately) that you are downloading? If you are trying to get a movie, say Lord of the Rings, and it is listed with a size of 2.0 mb, then something is wrong. Most movies should be at least 650 mb.
