| The
FastTrack network is the network that Kazaa,
a popular P2P program, connects to. Although decentralized
(there is no central computer holding a list of all of its
users' files), the network is incredibly stable which has
allowed a peak average of 4 million individuals on this network.
It’s huge.
There are some
drawbacks here though. I have found a large amount of fake
files here, and very few good quality songs. If it is high
quality songs you are after, you should probably look elsewhere
first. Typically, this is my last resort.
Again, you are
going to need a client to access the network. To get on this
network, I suggest
Kazaa
Lite for Windows users and
Poisoned for Mac users .
After you have
downloaded the program, install it. Leave all of the defaults
unchanged, and click “Next” until installation
finishes. Go ahead and update the bad IP ranges when it prompts
you to do so. Continue through the configuration wizard, choosing
a username, and leave the upload speed unlimited.
Tip: Although
it is tempting to limit the upload speed to try and make downloads
faster, doing so will result in an automatic LOWER limit of
download speeds. This applies to all P2P programs where you
can set limits. Just leave both at maximum.
Once you have the
program installed and open, you’ll notice it is very
simple. It should connect automatically, but if not, click
“File” and “Log On.” (If it is grayed
out, you are logged on.)
There is a button
at the top labeled search. Click it. It’s basically
the same setup as eMule, and its pretty straightforward. Type
something in, say Frank Sinatra, and click “Search Now.”
Your results are on the left. Chose a file and double click
it to download. At the top of the screen, you’ll see
a button called “Downloads/Uploads.” Click this
to keep tabs on your progress.
