are some things that you need to know exist when you start
filesharing. Some things on this page have been used in the
past for illegal software downloading, and though I do not
condone such behavior, I figured that I'd include this information
so you know it exists. What you do with it is up to you.
Computers mess
up, right? Have you ever had yours freeze up, and when you
finally get it back up, some program doesn’t work right?
Fantastic. You go through the motions, uninstall the program,
reinstall it, it asks you for your serial number, and you
can’t find it. What should you do? You should probably
call the manufacturer and speak to a machine until you get
frustrated enough that you put your phone through your computer
screen. (By the way, if you get to this point, the person
on the line will no longer be able to help you with your program.)
Well, suppose you
would like to avoid that frustration. Most worthwhile programs
need a serial number to work. Can you get a serial number,
or a registration code somewhere else? Do you think I would
have included this section if you couldn’t?
There are a few
sources of such things. All of the P2P programs I have listed
are a good start. Don’t overlook search engines as a
great tool in this area. There are many sites on the web with
serial numbers and cracks. Be warned, though, that many of
these sites can contain viruses and some adult material (I
guess they have to make a living some how), so navigate with
care. I have had very good luck running a search for “[program
name here] [keyword here].” For program name, put in
the name of the program you need the code for. Include the
version number for greater accuracy. In place of keyword,
use one of these: serial, warez, crack, key code, or whatever
the program is requesting (ie- registration code). If the
program needs a serial number or a registration code, chances
are good that you can find it.
There are a few
drawbacks to this method, however. I’d only recommend
doing this in a pinch and getting your legitimate number back
as fast as you can. The reason is that the illegitimate numbers
are often reported back to the manufacturer, and updates from
them that would have otherwise been free may not work for
your program. Some programs will also lock up if such a number
is detected. These problems don’t always come up, and
if as with many things, there are work-arounds available.
Most programs and games can be used this way problem free.
